The Best Movie From Each State: Hawaii
The results from the Eleventh installment of my totally normal and not insane 51 week study of the top three movies from each state are IN. Remember everyone got three votes, so the percentages reflect how many times they appeared on every individual vote. For the Aloha State, this is what y’all chose.
3. Pearl Harbor
This was one of those movies I liked a lot as a kid, but re-watched as an adult and realized sort of really sucked. Especially considering its proximity in release to probably the best World War 2 movie of all time in ‘Saving Private Ryan’. It is quintessentially Hawaii, though!
2. 50 First Dates
Unlike ‘Pearl Harbor’, this is a movie I rewatched and realized I love just as much. In fact, it’s probably one of the last decent Happy Madison productions. When that Israel Kamakawiwo?ole “Over the Rainbow” cover starts….Man, who’s cutting onions! Also huge RIPIP to Kamakawiwo?ole.
Thankfully, this was never in doubt. Probably the best comedy of the 2000’s, ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ was hilarious and also had a relatable/heartfelt story. Also, it had some of the best ancillary characters of all time.
